What You Don't Actually Know About The Moon

Hey there, this is our known moon :
You probably already know that. Or do you?

You might recognize that this is our moon.
But did you know that we only see 1 side of the moon. In fact its calculated that we can't ever see at least 41% of the moon. Yes you heard that right. At any given time no matter where you are standing on the earth, we actually cannot see the backside of the moon.

The reason behind this has to do with how the moon rotates on its axis and how it revolves around our earth. So lets see what actually happens that makes this phenomenon possible.

The moon rotates very slowly on its axis. In fact it takes the moon close to 27 days just to rotate once on its poles. And it also takes approximately 27 days or 27.337 days precisely for the moon to revolve just once around the earth. due to the time 1 rotation of the moon itself takes the same amount of time for it to revolve around the earth, we always end up seeing the same side of the moon.

MinuteEarth explains very well in a video on exactly how this phenomenon works. Check out their video down below for a better and visual understanding of this occurrence.
